Why Does the Cooling Efficiency of Your Closed-Circuit Cooling Tower Keep Dropping?
Many users experience the same frustration: a closed-circuit cooling tower works perfectly when first installed, but after a year or two, cooling performance deteriorates noticeably. The temperature difference between inlet and outlet shrinks, while electricity bills climb higher. What's the root cause? Scale buildup.
The heat exchange coils inside a closed-circuit cooling tower are constantly exposed to spray water. This water contains calcium, magnesium, and other mineral ions that deposit on the coil surface over time, forming scale. Scale has extremely low thermal conductivity. When the scale layer reaches just 1 millimeter thick, heat exchange efficiency can drop by 20% to 30%. Worse still, scaling causes energy consumption to rise continuously, and in severe cases, it can clog the coils and trigger equipment overload shutdowns.

Why are some manufacturers' closed-circuit cooling towers particularly prone to scaling? The problem lies in the coil configuration design.
Most manufacturers use horizontal coil layouts. Spray water falls from above, but due to the horizontal arrangement, it's difficult for water to fully cover the bottom sections of the coils. This creates "dry spots" - areas where the coil surface isn't wrapped by a water film. Scale loves to grow on these dry spots, building up thicker and thicker over time. Acting as an insulating layer, the scale severely hinders heat transfer between the coils and the cooling medium, gradually weakening cooling capacity.
Faced with scaling issues, most manufacturers' go‑to solution is acid cleaning. Chemical cleaning can remove surface scale, but it's a temporary fix - it doesn't solve the root cause. A few months later, the dry spots are still there, and scale grows back. Acid cleaning also carries risks: the acid can corrode the coils, and any residual acid may cause secondary corrosion. Clean, scale, clean again - an endless cycle.

Oasis Bingfeng does it differently.
Our coils are designed using fluid dynamics optimization, ensuring that spray water completely envelops the entire coil surface - eliminating dry spots altogether. No dry spots means scale has nowhere to attach and grow. In addition, the internal loop uses soft water, which is far less prone to scaling and won't clog pipes. And the coils are made of 304 stainless steel - a smooth surface that makes it difficult for scale to adhere. Three layers of protection - fluid dynamics‑optimized coil design eliminating dry spots, soft water circulation reducing minerals at the source, and 304 stainless steel coils resisting scale buildup - all working together to keep scaling to an absolute minimum.
When choosing a closed‑circuit cooling tower, don't just look at price. Once scaling causes heat exchange efficiency to drop, the extra electricity costs and repair bills will far exceed the initial price difference of the equipment itself. Oasis Bingfeng designs out the scaling problem from the start - keeping your cooling tower running efficiently for years.
